The Process
To make the paper I cook KOZO or GAMPI, both oriental fibers, in a solution of water and soda ash until the fiber is soft and pulls apart easilly. After a thorough rinse, the fiber is bleached .. in the sun or with hydrogen peroxide. When the fiber has achieved its maximum lustre, I rinse it again then beat it "to a pulp".
Without adding color, KOZO will yield a creamy off-white paper. GAMPI will be more lustrous and more of an ecru shade. What sets my colored lampshades apart from commercially available ones is the use of lightfast PIGMENTS to color the pulp. My papers are archival and the lampshades made from them will outlive silk and styrene-lined commercial shades.

The Product
Virtually any size or shape lampshade may be created. To order a custom lampshade, measure top and bottom diameters and length of the side. Also indicate the kind of ring used to attach the lampshade to the lamp: clip-on, washer top (harp) or UNO fitting. It is usually not necessary to provide an old frame to create a new shade although there are some unusual shapes I do require recycling the old shade to create. I have available many frame shapes and sizes .. round, square, pitched sides or drum like.
